A good article. I have one quibble. You write, "The Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamshala, India, is a nationalist organisation which contends that a collective Tibetan national consciousness incorporating Buddhist traditions and Western democratic values supersedes the class distinctions among Tibetans."

Tibet had no democratic tradition before China resumed its control of Tibet. The "Tibetan Democracy Day" is a farce that began over a decade after Tibet's slave owners fled Tibet. During that time, the Tibetan aristocracy was working with the CIA (and getting paid by them) in the hope of restoring the Dalai Lama's feudal theocracy.
