Why? Because there’s money in it. It’s the reason Africans sold people to Europeans. It’s the reason those Africans protested when Europe began shutting down the slave trade. When people feel economically threatened, they do desperate things.

I have such a strong egalitarian streak that the idea of having servants or employees bothers me. But obviously, right now, the people who like having other people work for them are winning.

I don't believe there's "normal" behavior. People tend to fall into the patterns of the systems they're raised in.
