Deir Yassin, the most famous massacre, happened on April 9. That kickstarted the Nakba. Really, context matters.

Further, Israel's victory was no miracle. "By March 1948, the Yishuv had a numerical superiority, with 35,780 mobilised and deployed fighters for the Haganah, 3,000 men under Lehi and Irgun, and a few thousand armed settlers."
