The point of American slavery was labor, and slaves were expensive. Therefore, slaves in America tended to have longer lifespans than slaves in countries where slaves were cheap and they could be worked to death in a few years, especially in mines and on galleys.

Out of curiosity, what's gained by giving a pass to African slavery?
