I agree the Jews who changed their names in the US had a different reason: they had the usual reason that immigrants change their names. They wanted to blend in with the people they were joining, while Zionists wanted to set themselves apart from Palestinians.

Other white groups changed their names in the US too. Primarily Italian and Irish people, but Germanic people too.
