Gender roles are pragmatic when the bulk of bearing and raising children is on women. The question is when gender roles become exploitive. Studies of the Cherokee say they had a strikingly egalitarian system while having distinct gender roles.

But now it's the 21st century in America. I had thought we would be abolishing most things associated with gender. Instead, we have identitarian feminists and trans women doubling down on the idea that the roles for women and men—acceptable clothing, etc.—should be very different.
