I acknowledged that changing names is common. But can you cite any example of immigrants changing their names to something that's not related to the country they're immigrating to?

Are you embarrassed by names like Greenstein? I'm not. They're just European names.

Malcolm X obviously joined a cult, and so did Farrakhan. Most Jews, like most black Americans, do not change their names. Did you change yours?
