I am extremely comfortable with uncertainty--I'm an agnostic, a non-denominational socialist, etc.--but I also read history. Yes, there was a deal to be had, but obviously it was not had, and the reason it was not had was that Israel did not want it to be had. It was no different than in 2008 when Jimmy Carter said Hamas was willing to recognize Israel, yet Israel refused to meet with them.
