I’m generally sympathetic to your argument, but I have two quibbles:

1. Afro-American wasn’t about hair. It was a contraction of African-American on the model of Euro-American.
2. Trump got more of the black vote than any Republican in ages, and I’m pretty sure he got richer voters than the Dems, so equating Trump supporters with poor whites doesn’t explain his success.
