I’m mostly responding to your title. The idea of racial guilt is wrong. You could argue that Europeans should feel guilty for buying slaves and Africans should feel guilty for selling them (which has happened — several leaders of African countries have apologized for their historical role in the slave trade). But I think there’s enough work to be done that we shouldn’t waste time on guilt for things we didn’t do.
I completely agree no one should be silent in the face of injustice.
And you are very right to speak kindly with your parents. People learn slowly, but almost all of us do learn.
