I've read Diamond's book. If you google a bit, you'll find some smart criticism of it.

I complete agree that a wealthy minority can win, and that Israel is a good example of that. But in a class war, the soldiers join the side of the working class and the wealth of the rich is irrelevant. See the birth of the USSR or the French Revolution.
