Marx and Engels made tasteless jokes in private—in their way, they were like frat boys. Since Engels knew Marx did not deny his Jewish heritage and was happily called “the Moor” because of his complexion, Engels would not have interpreted those comments as you do.

Now, to make this practical, antisemites don’t have Jewish admirers, and Marx had many while he was alive and far more after he died. Do you think they all failed to notice his antisemitism?
