Palestinians are no more trying to turn history back than the Irish did. Conquest is not settled until the conquered submit.
By "the West", you seem to omit countries like the United States where Jews have thrived and are currently the most-admired religious group.
Your concept of modernity suggests you really need to read more about the history of capitalism.
