Race and racism are both pseudo-science—race is the theory that there are fundamental differences, and racism is the belief that those fundamental difference mean one race is superior.

When the Nazis were deciding how to treat Jews, they studied the US's Jim Crow model, which was racial rather than tribal. That's why Nazis arrested people who had Jewish ancestors whether they were culturally Jewish or not.

We agree that rich people have always treated poor people horribly. But racists treat people of other races worse than they treat people of other tribes who are of their race. It is striking that Jefferson could write "all men are created equal" and then explain why he believed some people

were less equal.
