That's part of it. Another is that richer people don't need the comfort of religion. And a third is that we tend to adopt the beliefs of our peers, so if you become richer, you'll hang with more atheists and be more likely to become one.

Not saying it's always all three. I think it can be any combination of them or just one alone.
