It’s hard to pity the fans of capitalism who love watching the rich enjoy the wealth that belongs to us all. But remember that capitalism’s fans despise themselves. Ask them why they’re not rich if capitalism is so great and they’ll tell you they are failures. They embrace their role as capitalism’s losers.

  • They love seeing the rich own palaces and penthouses and do not realize we all could have comfortable homes.
  • They love seeing the rich own yachts and jets and do not realize we all could have great public transportation.
  • They love seeing the rich buying expensive health care and do not realize we all could have great health care.
  • They love seeing the rich attending expensive schools and do not realize we could all have great free education.

The fans of capitalism don’t understand that every rich person won the birth lottery by being born rich or lucky or both. They don’t care that the world’s richest people now own 11% of global wealth, marking the biggest leap in recent history, or that we live in the new Gilded Age: 2,750 people have more wealth than half the planet. The fans praise the rich who choose to run businesses and don’t care that the rich only run businesses if they enjoy it — work for the rich is a hobby, not a job. Nor do the fans care that the world is full of people who work…
