I wish we had separate words for economic class and social class. They do blur somewhat in the US, but from a practical point of view, it doesn't matter what your social class is if you don't have wealth, and if you do have wealth, you can buy anything anyone else can buy. That wasn't the case when segregation was legal in the US.
