immigrant parents were more likely to settle in areas with higher mobility prospects, both in the

historical and in the modern data."

That makes sense. But it doesn't change the fact that half of Americans live in or near poverty so they don't have the opportunities of contemporary immigrants--excluding refugees, of course.
