Well, we do agree that racism has precursors. It's essentially tribalism gone feral—the physical markers that suggest someone is from another tribe are transformed into markers of otherness, so while a tribalist needs to hear someone speak to know if a stranger belongs to their tribe, a racist can tell in a glance what race a stranger belongs to.
