You should always be sceptical when reading history books. For example, I read one about the early English colonies in North America that talked about white people, but the idea of white people had not been established then--they would have thought of themselves as English or as Christians, not as "white people".

Or for a more relevant example, there are books about Tibet that never mention Tibetan slavery.
